Advanced Practice Nurse - Full-time, Night shift

Supervises, guides, and directs professional skilled nursing care for the incarcerated offender in any outpatient clinic, infirmary, or specialized cell house setting for acute care, chronic support and emergency assessment and intervention as indicated

May act as unit supervisor for a smaller clinic, shift within a larger complex facility, or specialized clinical treatment unit

May be required to work any shift, weekends and holidays, and perform nurse on‑call or call‑back duties

Documents both handwritten or electronically in an accurate and timely manner to provide comprehensive inmate medical records

Delivers patient education including demonstrating self‑care techniques, anticipating possible complications, informing about medication side effects, and listening to offender concerns

Delivers patient care in a clinic, infirmary or specialized cell house setting individualized to offenders' diagnoses and needs

Performs routine and emergency physical and emotional assessments of inmates during triage, sick line, and emergency situations using basic nursing skills, physical assessment skills, and nursing protocols

Responsible for payroll, scheduling, and Performance Management Plans (PMP); accountable for completion of shift responsibilities for 8-16 hours per day; point person for daily operations and decisions; assigns nursing staff, coordinates staff orientation, rearranges unit routines, assists in hiring, participates in promotional examinations and disciplinary recommendations

Recommends, implements, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures; functions as an on‑call supervisor and arranges for coverage and approves overtime

Applicant must possess a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)

Applicant must have three (3) years of full‑time experience providing patient care as a Registered Nurse. Work experience less than full time will be prorated

A bachelor’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of the required experience. A master’s degree or doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of the required experience. Ability to read and comprehend the English language

Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing

Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind

Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout shift

One year or more of nursing supervisory experience, including ability to affect pay, status, and tenure of subordinate employees

Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse in a correctional environment

Employees may be required to submit to regular serial testing and reporting for COVID‑19

Possess a high school diploma or GED

The agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with an offender who has engaged in sexual abuse or has been convicted of sexual activity in the community facilitated by force or coercion

Successfully pass all modules of the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics

Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and while on assignment

Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature, possible inclement weather, and concrete floor/wall settings

Willing and able to travel

Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyard (nights) with rotating shift schedule
