Machinist Job Description

The Machinist produces and repairs precision parts using both manual and automated equipment while maintaining tight tolerances and high quality standards. This role sets up and operates a wide range of conventional lathes, mills, presses, and other manual machine shop equipment to fabricate or repair parts that support ongoing operations. The Machinist interprets drawings and specifications, follows established procedures, and uses precision measuring instruments to ensure every component meets exact blueprint and customer requirements.

Set up and operate a wide variety of conventional lathes, mills, presses, and other manual machine shop equipment to fabricate or repair precision parts.

Produce or repair precision components using both manual and automated equipment while maintaining required tolerances.

Interpret drawings, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders to determine machining procedures, sequence of operations, and appropriate tooling.

Operate machine shop equipment to achieve blueprint tolerances for new or modified mechanical parts and devices.

Monitor and control feed rate and cutting speed to ensure optimal performance, quality, and tool life.

Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards, and make adjustments as needed.

Follow quality control procedures to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machining or dimensional issues.

Apply working knowledge of safety protocols and safe operating procedures for all machine tools and equipment.

Use hand tools and machine tools, including lathes and grinders, to perform mechanical assembly, finishing, and adjustments as required.

Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.

5+ years of related experience in the manufacturing industry and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• High school diploma or G.Proven experience as a machinist operating manual machine tools such as lathes, mills, and presses.
• Working knowledge of safety protocols in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
• Hands-on experience with machine tools and hand tools, including lathes and grinders.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to perform quality control checks and use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
• Experience working with mechanical assemblies in a manufacturing setting.

Familiarity with a variety of manual machine shop equipment beyond lathes, mills, and presses.

This role is based in a very hot manufacturing environment where production activity is continuous and fast-paced. While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can be high, and appropriate personal protective equipment is required. The position involves working around industrial machinery and machine tools, with a strong emphasis on following safety protocols and maintaining awareness of surroundings at all times.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Riverside, CA.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
