Deliver healthcare using applicable laws, policies, regulations, clinical standards, and juvenile justice standards, under the direction of the overseeing authority.
Identify healthcare delivery problems in collaboration with facility providers and administration.
Conduct confidential post-restraint exams as indicated.
Respond to emergency situations within 3 minutes to triage and provide care as indicated.
Complete referrals to in-house providers, dental, mental health, optometry, or other specialists as indicated.
Collect laboratory specimens using best nursing practices and arrange for laboratory pick-up.
Communicate with providers, peers, direct care staff, supervisors, and administrators regarding youth health and clinic issues as they arise.
Complete and submit reports regarding healthcare services as assigned.
Ensure first aid kits and spill kits are properly stocked and current.
Check emergency bag inventory and assess proper functioning of equipment monthly.
Maintain stock of medical supplies.
Complete regular reviews of the Medication Administration Record according to policy and procedures.
Maintain stock of over-the-counter medications as needed.
Observe, inquire, and document side effects daily on the Medication Administration Record.
Ensure psychiatric medication monitoring is complete per individualized orders.
Coordinate with psychiatric providers regarding verbal and written consents for medications.
Maintain psychiatric medication monitoring treatment tracker for all youth prescribed psychiatric medications.
Obtain medical histories and complete nursing assessments utilizing the nursing process.
Prepare medical records and medications for trips, transfers, and discharges.
Maintain documentation of youth healthcare in the medical record according to regulatory policies and guidelines.
Facilitate medical, dental, and vision provider visits at the facility.
Schedule and coordinate appointments with community providers.
Provide and monitor staff screenings and vaccinations as indicated.
Act as an advocate for youth health needs.
Serve as a primary resource for youth regarding health and wellness issues.
Educate youth regarding health concerns and physical findings.
Provide necessary medical information to assure follow-up care.
Respond to staff concerns regarding youth medical issues while maintaining confidentiality.
Attend and participate in support team meetings, contributing pertinent medical information.
Collaborate to conduct group teaching sessions as requested for youth and staff.
Problem-solve health concerns and medical issues relating to youth.
Obtain immunization history as needed.
Record administered vaccines into the appropriate systems and the youth's chart.
Maintain time and attendance in accordance with established policies.
Establish satisfactory working relationships with community providers and staff.
Maintain confidentiality while providing medical care and sharing medical information.
