Nurse Anesthetist Full-Time

Status: Full time

Schedule Details/Additional Information: 8 and 10 hours shifts with call from home

Provides all elements of pre‑anesthesia, anesthesia and post‑anesthesia services including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care consistent with anesthesia plan and in collaboration with the surgeon/anesthesiologist/surgical team.

Manages conditions based on clinical indication, evidence‑based care, cost effectiveness, and assessment of risks/benefits and alternatives.

Ensures readiness and availability of equipment, supplies and medications to perform the planned anesthetic.

Delivers anesthesia care including induction, maintenance, support of life functions, and emergence from anesthesia.

Performs post‑anesthesia duties including remaining with the patient and facilitating safe transfer of care to other qualified individuals; administering post‑operative epidural pain relief and other post‑operative analgesia in collaboration with the surgeon; and making post‑anesthetic visits regarding the presence or absence of anesthesia related complications.

Manage emergency situations by assessing, stabilizing, and determining disposition of patients, including providing advanced airway management, administration of emergency drugs and fluids, and using basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques.

Maintains accurate, complete, concise, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Participates in quality, safety and peer review initiatives/performance activities, organizational and/or departmental meetings and committees, peer review, and workgroups as necessary.

Participates in education and/or onboarding of new team members, students, and other health care professionals.

Maintains standards of productivity, access, face‑to‑face time, and quality metrics to ensure optimal, safe and timely patient care delivery.

May act as a clinical and/or didactic instructor for student nurse anesthesia students.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age‑specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. License/Registration/Certification Required:

Active RN, and APRN/APRN‑FPA/APNP or other APRN license(s) in state(s) of practice, AND

Active national board certification as CRNA by nationally certifying board (NBCRNA).

Active DEA registration prior to hire

Active ACLS, PALS, NRP as required by clinical site/practice and/or role prior to or within 6 months of hire

Education Required: Master’s Degree in Nursing

Experience Required: No experience required

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective member of a health care team.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving technology and proficiency with the electronic medical record.

Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.

Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.

Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

About the CRNA Role

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) that functions at a medical level of care to provide anesthesia, analgesia, and pain management services across the patient lifespan in a variety of settings. Clinical responsibilities may include ambulatory, surgery center and/or hospital anesthesia services. The CRNA participates as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide safe, high quality, cost effective, and evidenced‑based care. The CRNA demonstrates the highest levels of professionalism and upholds the missions, visions, and values of Advocate Health. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will provide care within their scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, institutional policy, privileges, and practice agreements.
