Job Summary
The ENT Speech Pathologist provides advanced evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with complex voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. Practicing with a high degree of autonomy, the Speech Pathologist delivers comprehensive, evidence-based care to diverse patient populations and serves as a clinical expert within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
In addition to direct patient care, the ENT Speech Pathologist provides consultation, education, and didactic instruction to faculty, staff, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support best practices and advance specialized knowledge in voice, swallowing, and airway management. This role plays a key part in promoting clinical excellence, collaboration, innovation, and exceptional patient outcomes within an academic healthcare setting.

Minimum Qualifications
California Licensed Speech Pathologist
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC‑SLP) from the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (ASHA)
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
Master’s degree in Speech Pathology
Maintain professional growth and CEUs as required for licensing and CCC's
Licenses and Certificate Renewal annually
Completion of clinical fellowship year
Thorough knowledge of appropriate assessment instruments, test administration procedures, scoring, and interpretation. Ability to extract pertinent information to relate to the patient and/or family members
Knowledge of how patients should be responding to treatment, average length of stay in treatment, and recognition of appropriate versus inappropriate treatment for each patient
Ability to establish programs based on testing results appropriate for each patient
Ability to recognize the need for program modification
Ability to extract pertinent behaviors and incorporate these into daily written progress notes
Knowledge of various home programs and organization into individual programs for family implementation
Ability to report to the referring physician regarding patient diagnosis, skills, and prognosis using appropriate terminology and information
Ability to extract pertinent information to relate to family members, be empathic and supportive
Ability to maintain patient records and process necessary billing forms and treatment authorizations in a prompt, accurate manner
Ability to maintain accurate schedule and personal workload accounts
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions given by the section chief, including attendance at weekly meetings
Knowledge of current therapeutic and evaluative instruments
Ability to assume responsibility for other therapists' patients on short notice
Ability to communicate effectively with other therapists
Ability to provide instruction and supervision, as required, for student interns and medical students
Knowledge of community resources
Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles, and techniques of patient care related to the area of expertise
Skills to provide information, explanations, and instructions clearly and concisely to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English
Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for the clinics/departments' customers; to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner; to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor, and to use a proactive approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action
Ability to maintain composure, efficiency, and a positive, customer-service-oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed
Identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties
Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to act and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached
Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment always exists
Preferred Qualifications
1 year of experience with gender-affirming voice therapy and singing voice therapy
Laryngoscopy and videostroboscopy competency

The Department of Otolaryngology provides diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. This position functions under the Director of Speech Pathology to provide clinical and instrumental evaluations and therapeutic intervention for a variety of disorders.
