Production Underwriter, Package Lines.

The role requires travel within the assigned territory and a company vehicle will be provided.

JOB OBJECTIVE Represent Encova Insurance as the agency manager for assigned agents, focusing on commercial lines (e.g., Responsible for achieving premium growth and profitability objectives by reviewing risks, determining acceptability, and writing profitable new business while retaining profitable renewal accounts. Focused on actions that positively impact growth and profitability while ensuring excellent customer service and timely responsiveness to assigned agencies.

Develop and maintain agency relationships through regular visits with agency leadership and production staff, covering: Coordinate agency training when needed and assist agencies with tools needed for sustainable, profitable growth across all profit centers.

Gather competitive intelligence.

Stay abreast of current insurance laws and regulations.

Determine acceptability, quality, pricing, profitability, and opportunity for new and renewal business.

Complete thorough risk analysis on designated accounts using Encova, NCCI, ISO and industry rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Gather and analyze information necessary for accurate risk evaluation.

Determine appropriate pricing based on risk exposures, quality, loss potential, and coverage.

Utilize available resources (underwriting guidelines, business unit strategies, and consultation) to ensure adequate understanding of risk exposures.

Ensure proper issuance of policies, certificates, filings, and notifications.

Effectively utilize rules and guidance to ensure proper policy construction.

Seek guidance of management on risks exceeding assigned authority levels.

Manage existing and prospective accounts by actively participating in account renewals, new business presentations, and discussions with agents.

Participate in monitoring and analyzing performance of assigned agents; Account management, including coordination of service delivery of various disciplines within the team: claim review, safety and loss services, customized reporting, etc.

Conduct/coordinate sales and training sessions and orientation of new products, programs, and systems for assigned agents.

Lead discussions on new underwriting approaches, coverage enhancements/changes, and underwriting projects when requested.

OTHER FUNCTIONS Responsible for automobile travel within territory; travel represents a meaningful portion of associate’s time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Minimum 5 years of progressive commercial lines underwriting experience in package lines and/or workers’ compensation; Bachelor’s degree preferred; Working knowledge of commercial multi‑line underwriting, pricing and coverage.

Knowledge of effective sales/marketing and agency relationship techniques, including partnering with independent insurance agents.

Creative and entrepreneurial approach to sales and marketing initiatives.

Knowledge of laws, rules and their application for the assigned territory.

Knowledge of policy and procedures regarding risk administration, risk management, underwriting and loss control.

Understanding of insurance industry and business environment to develop effective strategy and remain technically current.

Develop and implement account, territorial, producer and book strategies to acquire and retain business.

Initiate, build and maintain effective working relationships and tailor services to meet customer needs.

Plan and lead meetings: ensure agenda creation, appropriate materials, task focus, client issue resolution and follow‑up action plans.
