ResponsibilitiesThe packaging operator team member position operates, packs and maintains a single packaging cell used to package snack foods. Performing essential work activities and ensuring safety and quality in a fast-paced manufacturing and warehouse environment. Team member is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance related to packaging of product; monitoring and troubleshooting, starting and shutting down the packing machine; The Packaging Operator will take part in the shift kick-off meetings with the line team.Safely operates and maintains packaging equipmentEnsures that products are produced in accordance with quality specificationsEnsures packaging equipment produces safe, quality product at the desired rateInspects and monitors the machine before, during, and after the production processReads production schedule to determine quantities and types of products to be packaged and adjusts packaging rates accordinglyRegulates machine flow, speed, and/or temperature through adjustments of machine components, tensions, and pressure as neededCompletes all quality testing on the machine (i.e. code date verification, metal detector checks, seal checks)Keeps key components of packaging equipment clean. Inspects for defects, fixes minor defects, and reports defects to the Packaging Machine Coordinator when assistance is neededReports and/or takes any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurringLegibly fills out required forms and paperworkMonitors and troubleshoots packaging machinesEnsures all safety devices are operating properlyInspects verifies and adjusts product weight or measurement to meet specificationsObserves machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of packaged products to standardsMonitors the production line, watching for problems such as pileups, jams, or glue that isn't sticking properlyInspects and removes defective products and packaging materialListens for malfunction indicatorsShuts down machines when malfunctions occurClears machine jamsCleans to inspect, finding defectsTroubleshoots the cause(s) of poor-quality products, improper weights (high or low), unacceptable finished package appearance, and machine breakdownsEnsures packaging equipment is running at documented centerlines as the initial step of troubleshootingSets up, starts, and shuts down packaging equipmentPrepares, cleans, and maintains the workplaceRepackaging team members must also be able to effectively communicate instructions to fellow teammates, including but not limited to: Packaging Machine Coordinators, other Packer Operators, Packers, and or Processors.
