This is a full-time, union position with benefits and time off, upon meeting eligibility requirements.

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible for serving and protecting the community by performing crime prevention, criminal investigations, and law enforcement activities; Assesses information attained through dispatch, training, and experience to determine the type of situation and response needed; Complies with uniform standards and ensures all equipment is operational and ready for duty.
Observes and maintains safety and security of property and citizens.
Conducts investigations of accidents, crimes and complaints.
Intervenes in disputes by actively listening to involved parties, maintaining visual contact with disputants, and asking relevant questions to determine the most appropriate strategy to protect the public and mediate disputes.
Serves warrants and aids citizens as required.
manages evacuations, controls traffic in disaster areas, and uses protective equipment where hazardous materials may be present.
Continuously learns, reviews, and stays up-to-date on current division policies, trainings, and procedures; maintains first aid, firearms, and other required certifications.
Appears in court as a testifying officer, serves subpoenas, and assists in the enforcement of court orders.

High School diploma or general education degree (GED), and must have at least one year experience as a full-time Police Officer in the State of Ohio with no more than one year of separation of employment.
Successful completion of Law Enforcement Officer Training Program as prescribed by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) and maintain OPOTA certification.
Must successfully complete training required by the department.
Must meet annual qualification standards for firearm use and possession.
Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to take proper law enforcement actions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. ability to operate and provide ordinary care of motor vehicles and firearms; Knowledge of: Department policies and procedures; Federal, state and local ordinances and laws; Municipal law enforcement, operations rules and regulations; Court procedures and protocol; Investigative techniques and equipment; Appropriate use of firearms; BAC equipment operation; LEADS operation; Document preparation, requirements and methods; Available community resources; Government processes and structures.
Interpret and apply laws, regulations and policies; Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; Prepare and present expert testimony in a court of law; Serve as liaison with schools, juvenile court officials, parents and juveniles; Establish and maintain a rapport with juveniles and/or police canines; Work rotating shifts, flexible hours, weekends, and holidays on short notice; Assess community patrol needs.

Non-safety force employees are members of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS). Safety force employees are members of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund (OP&F).
Depending on the position held, some employees qualify for a uniform/clothing/technology allowance, shift differential or training pay.

Full-time employees may receive a single membership to the City's Fitness Center and may purchase family memberships at a discount rate.
