Join us and take pride in making a tangible impact on our community's well-being. Work Hours Typical shifts are Thursday – Monday from approximately 8/9:30pm – 4:30/6am. Position Summary Performs cleaning and minor building maintenance functions, including mechanical and custodial services at the Municipal Center, Police Department, Eagan Community Center, Civic Arena, Fire Administration building, Central Maintenance building, and all other City buildings to ensure a safe and clean environment. Assists other divisions/departments with cleaning and maintenance needs.Essential Position FunctionsPerform daily inspectionsChange light bulbs, wash windows, vacuum, maintain restrooms, restock inventory in janitorial closets, mop floors, sweep, dust, clean carpets, strip/buff floors, paint interior/exterior surfaces, repair/patch walls, and stain/varnish woodwork.Organize meeting rooms by setting up and taking down tables and chairs, presentation and audio-visual equipment, removing and recycling trash, and any other meeting-related preparation.Repair/replace plumbing and electrical fixtures as well as occasional routine operations associated with HVAS systems to ensure efficient operation.Assist with set up, tear down, and wiring of modular office components, and repair office furniture.Set up and store voting equipment as needed.Perform exterior building maintenance including snow blowing, shoveling, sidewalk brushing, spreading sand and salt, picking up litter, waste collection and disposal.Lock and unlock buildings and perform all building security.Assist other departments with custodial maintenance requests or tasks as assigned.Operate motor vehicle to pick up parts and run errands.Give work direction/training to other part-time employees performing cleaning/maintenance tasks.May respond to weekend and/or evening calls for assistance regarding mechanical failures or malfunctions, snowfalls, and/or general emergencies.Other Duties:Attend seminars, educational training and all meetings related to the position.Perform other maintenance or tasks as assigned.Minimum QualificationsApplicant MUST pass a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) background check and successfully pass the required BCA Criminal Justice Information Services Security Awareness Training test.High school diploma or acceptable equivalent (G.18 years of age or older.Two years of experience in general building maintenance / minor repairsTwo years of experience in commercial janitorial tasks.General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems/pneumatic and electronic controls, tools, cleaning equipment, and chemicals.Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.Things that may help you be successful in this roleThree years of experience in general building maintenance.Previous experience with municipal buildings and community centers.State of Minnesota Special Boiler License.Vocational training in building maintenance and mechanical systems.Develop and maintain good working relations with other City staff, volunteer groups, residents, and visitors.Working Conditions75% indoors of assigned buildings25% outdoors on grounds of assigned buildings or in transport to other buildings.Employee will be required to perform physical work (snow shoveling, unloading trucks, etc.) Shifts include 7:00am – 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday, 10:00pm-6:00am Tuesday-Saturday with alternate hours as scheduled or requested, including some Friday nights and/or weekend hours.The City operates under a Council-Administrator form of government, employing 300 regular full-time employees, and up to 400 seasonal and part-time employees.
