Reporting to the Medical Director, the Psychiatrist will provide direct psychiatric services to clients receiving case management services in Caminar's Redwood City clinic. They are responsible for assessing clients' mental health issues, diagnosing mental health disorders and working with a multi-disciplinary team and the client to develop an appropriate treatment plan. The Psychiatrist will prescribe psychiatric medications as needed, monitor medication side effects, and document therapeutic progress.

Provide direct psychiatric services. Work with the Medication Clinic team to ensure that clients receive appropriate evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, medical screening and medical/psychiatric evaluation whenever indicated, and that all medical/psychiatric care is appropriately documented in the medical record in a timely manner. Provide care in the clinic(s), in community settings (where applicable) and by telehealth. Required to provide services (including telehealth) in the Redwood City clinic at least 3 days per week

Conduct psychiatric assessments and make diagnoses. See clients during drop-in and emergency appointments.

Work collaboratively with nursing staff.

Provide cross-coverage for psychiatrists when colleagues are away or unavailable. Participate in the Individual Plan of Service for each client, with emphasis on all medical aspects of the plan. Review and follow up on treatment(s) ordered by other physicians.

Document client's progress and provision of service in compliance with HIPAA and all other federal and California laws, statutes, codes, and regulations governing the provision and billing of mental health services.

Review non-psychiatric medical orders and prescriptions.

Order non-prescription, first aid, drugs (i.e. analgesics, antipyretics) as needed.

Review productivity metrics and other clinical key performance indicators with the Medical Director and course correct performance and/or related processes when warranted.

Participate in quality management projects and programs.

Participate in promoting a safe, healthy and clean working environment at all times consistent with applicable laws, industry standards and the agency's own Health & Safety Program.

Perform other related duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Physician licensed by the State of California, with an unrestricted medical license and either Board eligible or Board Certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Able to work independently as a psychiatrist treating clients living with serious mental illness.

Able to learn new electronic health records, lab, and pharmacy systems and use these on a daily basis.

Experience in psychiatric rehabilitation, preferably in a social rehabilitation environment, highly preferred. Experience in community field work is desirable.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Assertive Community Treatment Model, Full-Service Partnership, Harm Reduction, Housing First, and Motivational Interviewing is preferred.

Current on developments, trends and research in the field of medicine and psychiatry.

Pharmacology and psychopharmacology including laws regarding informed consent, dosage ranges, drug incompatibilities, and side effects.

General Medicine and its relationship to psychiatry.

Current techniques and dynamics of individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy.

Chemical dependency and abuse and its relationship to psychiatry.

Psychiatric principles and practices.

Community mental health practice and program options.

Medical ethics as they relate to patient care.

Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including email and Internet navigation required. Experience with Human Service Information Systems strongly preferred. Experience managing web-based time and attendance and staff training and development system strongly preferred.

Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, etc. Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with residents and staff, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language.

Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office) environments. Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone, and fax machine.

Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices.

If required, a valid California driver license, a reliable personal vehicle, and current personal auto insurance is required by law. In addition, an MVR sufficient to obtain and maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements.

Must be able to pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.

If applicable, a personal cell phone with reliable service and a data plan to use for business purposes.

May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
