About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio TX. Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) is the United States Army's premier medical institution. Located on Fort Sam Houston, BAMC is a 425-bed academic medical center, and is the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center. BAMC is also home to the Center for the Intrepid, an outpatient rehabilitation facility. The center is composed of ten separate organizations, including community medical clinics, centered around the Army's largest in‑patient hospital. BAMC is staffed by more than 8,000 soldiers, airmen, sailors, civilians, and contractors, providing care to wounded service members and the San Antonio community at large. Brooke Army Medical Center has a history which dates back to 1879 when the first Post Hospital opened as a small medical dispensary located in a single‑story wooden building. In 1886, the first permanent hospital was built. In 1908, an 84‑bed Station Hospital was constructed on the west side of the post.

As a Physician (Hospitalist) you will:

Serve as the day/night/weekend Physician (Hospitalist) for Inpatient Medicine and assist in an outpatient clinic of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), as needed.

Perform highly responsible duties in the advanced examination, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients for the Internal Medicine Service.

Examine and conduct thorough studies of patients presented with medical management problems based on the level of professional ability.

Serve as the attending physician and admit and discharge patients to the Medical Wards.

Provide administrative and direct supervision of assigned personnel including, but not limited to, students, residents, and advanced practitioners. Serve as academic faculty and facilitate teaching and training of trainees.

Basic Requirements for Physician (Hospitalist)

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)

Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

Residency Training for GP-14: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Emergency Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
