Biology Teacher
Brooklyn Emerging Leaders Academy Charter School (BELA) is an all-girls high school located in Bedford‑Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, dedicated to preparing each student for postsecondary success.

This full‑time position begins mid‑August 2026. The successful candidate will be deeply committed to empowering young women, collaborating across the school, and implementing the IB framework in inquiry‑based, interdisciplinary instruction.

Create inspiring, challenging, and effective teaching and learning experiences for all students.

Collaborate with fellow teachers, students, and school leadership.

Share in the leadership of the school by taking on essential responsibilities that support the school’s learning environment culture, including operational duties, school‑wide initiatives, recruitment events, testing coordination, and coverage responsibilities.

Be committed to serving all students, including Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners, within inclusive classroom settings.

Become part of a strong and supportive professional learning community.

Enjoy and thrive in the lively and diverse world of urban adolescent young women while striving to create a model of public education that serves them well.

Participate in the school’s annual overnight camping trip and service days at the start of the school year.

Participate in annual curriculum nights, student‑led conferences, and staff meetings.

Engage in ongoing IB professional development, collaborative curriculum planning, interdisciplinary unit development, and IB assessment calibration sessions.

Teach four academic classes.

Create and teach challenging and engaging lessons linked to Common Core State Standards and International Baccalaureate standards.

Serve as a mentor teacher to a group of 12-15 young women and teach one section of Leadership Academy.

Work collaboratively with other staff to plan curriculum and build school culture across the school.

Attend school and community events.

Participate in IB curriculum planning, reflection cycles, and accreditation‑related processes as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant academic field required.

or Master’s degree in a relevant content area preferred.

NYS Dual Certification in Special Education and General Education preferred or required based on role.

Minimum of two years of urban teaching experience preferred.

Strong MS Office skills and/or a demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly.

Proficiency with Google Workspace preferred.

Experience with IB MYP and/or DP curriculum, training, or implementation preferred; willingness to complete IB training required.
