Underwriter I (Temporary)

This role will focus on the underwriting and credit analysis of small businesses, and making informed lending decisions across a variety of business financing products. The ideal candidate will come from a fintech or financial services firm and have hands-on small business underwriting experience.

Analyze small business credit applications and assess overall creditworthiness, repayment capacity, and risk.
Review business and personal credit reports, bank statements, financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and other supporting documentation.
Underwrite small business lending products including business lines of credit, MCA, working capital loans, and short-term financing.
Evaluate business cash flow, revenue trends, debt obligations, average daily balances, deposits, and other financial indicators.
Identify credit risks, inconsistencies, fraud indicators, and potential repayment concerns.
Apply established credit policies, underwriting guidelines, and risk parameters to lending decisions.
Determine appropriate loan structures, approval amounts, terms, pricing, and risk levels based on the overall credit profile.
Communicate with sales/origination teams to obtain additional documentation and clarify financial or credit information.

Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred

• 2+ years of experience in business credit underwriting, commercial lending, alternative lending, or fintech lending.
• Strong understanding of business credit analysis and cash-flow-based underwriting.
• Experience analyzing bank statements, financial statements, credit reports, tax returns, and business performance.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify financial discrepancies and potential risk.
