Job Description
Purpose of position : The substitute teacher fills in during a regular teacher's absence, maintaining a productive and supportive learning environment. They are responsible for following the regular teacher's lesson plans and ensuring continuity in instruction and supervision of students.

Year 1: $165/day uncertified; $178/day with Colorado Teacher’s Certificate

Years 2-5: $178/day uncertified; $192/day with Colorado Teacher’s Certificate

Years 6-10: $186/day uncertified; $200/day with Colorado Teacher’s Certificate

Long Term Rate: $200/day

Work Year : Variable August through June, as needed; 8 hour full day, 6-hour ¾ day, or 4 hour ½ day

Essential functions daily :

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver lesson plans as provided by the absent teacher.

Supervise and actively engage students to support learning and maintain classroom order.

Fulfill any additional duties assigned to the absent teacher, as directed by the school principal.

Meet assigned classes at the designated times and locations.

Maintain established routines, procedures, and expectations within the classroom and school.

Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment appropriate to students’ age and interests.

Support school programs and promote a positive image of the school.

Keep accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

Protect the confidentiality of student and school information.

Take necessary precautions to ensure student safety and care for school property.

Enforce classroom rules and support school policies governing student behavior and conduct.

Remain on campus for the full school day unless otherwise approved. A 30-minute, duty-free lunch break is allowed, with sign-out at the front office.

Follow all Board of Education policies, rules, and guidelines.

Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate appropriate conduct at all times.

Use technology solely for instructional purposes; personal devices should be used only during the duty-free lunch period.

Respond promptly to communication from the substitute coordinator.

Perform other duties as assigned by the school staff.,

Periodic Duties (long-term substitute duties)

Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as assigned by the principal, Superintendent, or per School Board policies.

Prepares for assigned classes and provides written lesson plans or preparation materials upon request.

Designs instruction that meets the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students whenever possible.

Makes reasonable efforts to be available to students and parents for education-related matters outside of instructional hours when required or requested.

Maintains communication with parents and promptly reports any unusual events or concerns to the principal or designated school official

Ongoing : Perform other duties as assigned; assist with emergency situations to keep all students safe and calm, in compliance with Building Emergency Response Team instruction.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent .

Familiarity with Lake County School District Policies and procedures, mandated child abuse reporting, and general substitute provisions as outlined in annual District Trainings.

Familiarity with the community and families helps in fostering productive relationships.

EXPERIENCE: None required

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT:

The ability to use computers and technology helpful (TV, internet, projector, Google Classroom, etc.).

Important workplace competencies include: growth mindset, cultural competency, customer focus, time management, perseverance, positive peer relationships, and effective communication.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Active Colorado Substitute or Certified Teacher Credential; pass fingerprinting/background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around and talk in an instructional tone. Supervision of students includes scanning areas, assessing situations, and proximity to issues. The employee occasionally is required to use hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, and bodily fluids from working with children. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly, think quickly, adjust lessons and plan within the instructional day.
