Med-Surg / Cardiology RN Job Breakdown (Short)

Shift: Not specified (unit-based scheduling)

Weekly Hours: ~36–40 hrs (based on staffing needs)

Unit: 25 beds → reducing to 16 beds (Med-Surg / Cardiology)

Ratio: 1:4–6

Charting: Cerner

Core Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care: ~18–20 hrs/week General medicine + cardiology patients, ongoing assessments

Clinical Skills & Procedures: ~8–10 hrs/week Trach care, chest tubes, NG/PEG care, PIV starts, blood transfusion

Medication & Drip Management: ~6–7 hrs/week Heparin & insulin drips, medication administration via Omnicell

Monitoring & Support Care: ~4–5 hrs/week Telemetry monitoring (Phillips), patient condition tracking

Documentation & Coordination: ~3–4 hrs/week Cerner charting, care updates, communication with team/LPN support

Key Requirements

• RN License
• BLS + NIHSS required
• 2+ years inpatient experience required
• First-time travelers accepted (if strong acute care background)
• Med-surg / trauma hospital experience preferred
• Must work well with LPN-supported care model

LPNs paired with RNs for support

Float to other mixed acuity units possible
