Cleaning and Maintenance - Housekeeping - Custodian

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining daily custodial activities at a high standard and quality throughout all levels of campus facilities. Providing janitorial cleaning/sanitizing duties in all areas assigned as well as activity and catering setups and breakdowns as required. Assumes the highest level of facilities and environmental services in keeping with the Mission, Vision, and Purpose of O’Connor Woods.

The Janitor reports to the Environmental Health and Safety Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare custodial techniques, environmental compliance regulations, and safety/security protocols, as well as broad-based experience with custodial operations in a healthcare environment.

Assist the Facilities Manager in the Planning, assessing, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating all Environmental Service Programs and Systems.

Explore, recommend, and purchase all environmental equipment and supplies.

Assures proper janitorial duties during campus restrictions/minimizing risk for cross contamination throughout campus.

Maintain an effective and accurate janitorial and event supplies inventory control system.

Respond to incoming requests for janitorial, event setups/breakdowns, maintenance, grounds, housekeeping and occasionally campus patrol.

Enters data into the TELS system for work order and unit turn requests.

Upon completion of work orders, enters information into TELS, (employee completing work, time spent, cost and charges, work accomplished, equipment and parts used) and close work order.

Responsible for filing both the TELS work orders and all other materials acquired by Environment Services.

Assist in coordinating all maintenance, grounds and janitorial needs accurately and timely.

Generate work orders for management assignment.

Schedules appointments with residents for the facilities department to complete work order requests. Follow up with telephone call to be sure of resident satisfaction after job completion outlining all discrepancies on work order to be reviewed by manager and/or supervisor.

Performs a variety of other clerical duties, depending upon project assigned, such as posting data, typing reports, sorting and distributing mail and phone messages, filing invoices, purging outdated files and other related clerical duties.

Ability to work collaboratively was a member of the management team in a group environment through personal behavior, work contributions and sharing of expertise and knowledge.

Maintain a high degree of personal initiative with good planning and organizational skills as well as a high degree of integrity and professionalism.

Ensure all resident and family concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

Upholds compliance with Privacy Legislation within our scope of practice and ensures departmental compliance with Privacy Legislation.

Participate in other work-related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 18 years old or older.

High school diploma or equivalent (copy required).

Experience in environmental services and custodial systems recommended.

Knowledge of Environmental Services procedures and equipment required.

Skilled in the use of the departmental equipment such as carpet extractors and bonnet machines and various other cleaning products and supplies.

Knowledge of office equipment including telephones, voicemail, fax, radios, and computer e-mail. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.

Basic knowledge of Departmental safety, human resources (evals, disciplinary actions, policies, etc.), quality improvement, etc.

Maintain an effective Environmental Safety program to assure resident, employee and equipment safety for all campus levels of care to include SNF.

Thorough documentation skills including grammatical, spelling and organization.

If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible driver. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years.

The ability to read, write and communicate to residents, staff, families, vendors, and all business relationships in English language.

Must be able to communicate with all levels of staff in an effective, neutral and professional manner.

Ability to function as a member of the team in a multi-task environment.

Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and changing business conditions.

Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.

The ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. If related to patient care -Must be able to safely assist residents/patients including but not limited to lifting, turning, supporting weight and movement.
