Security Guard

Under direction of the Operations Manager, to serve as the Agency's security guard for all Agency owned property.

Example of duties:

Under the direction from Supervisor:

• Conducts routine vehicle and foot patrols of Agency facilities and properties within the Agency boundary such as wells, reservoirs, boosters and vacant land to prevent trespassing or unauthorized entry, hiking or camping in unauthorized areas;
• Patrols areas as assigned for signs of trespass, fire, vandalism, safety hazards, landscaping problems, and damage to facilities; provide security services for Agency functions;
• Performs routine monitoring of motion sensors and security cameras via computer for the presence of any unauthorized individuals, vehicles or objects on DWA property and takes appropriate action, manipulates Pan Tilt Zoom cameras for this purpose, and program camera patrol patterns based on security concerns and trespasser activity;
• Reports trespassers to local law enforcement;
• Reports any unauthorized activities or individuals within the Agency's owned property or easements to supervisor, and document the incident to provide to local law enforcement;
• Maintains security equipment by making setting adjustments, perform minor maintenance such as battery and computer memory replacements and, with authorization, relocate cameras and motion sensors periodically when their locations have been compromised by trespassers or as needed;
• Coordinates with hired security, law enforcement, The United States Forest Service, The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, The Pacific Crest Trail Association, local residents, and utility companies to accomplish the purposes of Security at the locations listed above.
• Performs routine site inspection and/or minor clean up at intakes/diversions, pumps, wells, boosters and associated structures, as directed; and report any abnormalities; Employee will not enter vaults or confined spaces without authorization, or operate/perform maintenance on any DWA water system valves, electrical equipment, chlorination equipment, or associated appurtenances. Any needed repairs or maintenance concerns are to be relayed to the Operations Manager or Operations Supervisor.

Qualifications:

Schooling: High school diploma or G.E.D. required.

Certification: Possess a Security Guard Registration issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).

Experience: Minimum of five years of experience as a security guard. Law enforcement experience preferred, although not required.

License(s): Possession of a valid drivers' license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles appropriate for the use of Agency vehicles required in the fulfillment of the job duties for this position, with an acceptable driving record.

Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally; understand and effectively carry out general oral and written instructions; computer skills to include using word processing, tablets, cell phones, GIS programs, and emails; make sound independent judgments within established guidelines; maintain accurate files and records; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other employees; work alone, make decisions and determine the correct course of action; use tact and diplomacy, promote and monitor the public's compliance with the Agency's Rules and Regulations.

Generally, work is typically performed outdoors and will take place in all weather conditions, including extreme heat in excess of 110°; on occasions, work will be assigned within the Agency Operations Center or outlying Agency facilities.

Employee will be required to wear a "lone worker" device while on duty.

Working hours will typically be between the hours of 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday; occasional overtime and after-hours work may be assigned.
