About the Role
Sagemont Preparatory School is seeking an energetic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to support the physical development, confidence, teamwork, and wellness of our Lower School students. This role is ideal for an educator and coach who is passionate about helping young learners develop healthy habits, foundational athletic skills, sportsmanship, and a positive relationship with movement.
In this role, you will design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate physical education instruction while supporting students’ motor skill development, coordination, fitness, teamwork, and personal growth. The ideal candidate will bring strong PE instructional experience along with additional coaching expertise in elementary athletics, particularly basketball, soccer, and volleyball. You will create a safe, encouraging, and inclusive environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to participate with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver engaging Lower School physical education lessons that support age-appropriate movement, fitness, coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular development.
Teach foundational athletic skills through structured activities, games, drills, cooperative challenges, and sport‑specific instruction.
Support students in developing confidence, teamwork, perseverance, leadership, sportsmanship, and respect for peers.
Provide instruction and coaching support in elementary basketball, soccer, volleyball, and other developmentally appropriate athletic activities.
Create a positive, inclusive, and safe environment where students of varying skill levels and abilities feel encouraged to participate and grow.
Differentiate activities and instruction to meet the developmental needs, confidence levels, and physical abilities of Lower School students.
Teach students the importance of wellness, healthy habits, active lifestyles, goal‑setting, and responsible decision‑making.
Promote safe participation by teaching proper techniques, monitoring student activity, and reinforcing expectations for respectful and responsible play.
Plan and organize PE activities, equipment, instructional materials, and use of indoor and outdoor activity spaces.
Assess student participation, skill development, effort, and progress while providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
Collaborate with teachers, school leadership, and staff to support student development, campus events, and a well‑rounded Lower School experience.
Support elementary athletics, intramurals, enrichment opportunities, or schoolwide wellness initiatives as needed.
Communicate professionally with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership regarding expectations, student progress, and program needs.

What We’re Looking For
Master’s degree required.
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Education, or a related field preferred.
Teaching certification, coaching certification, or related credential preferred.
Experience teaching physical education or coaching elementary‑aged students required.
Coaching experience in basketball, soccer, volleyball, or other youth sports strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of age‑appropriate physical development, movement instruction, fitness activities, and elementary athletic skill development.
Ability to create engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate lessons for students with varying skill levels and confidence levels.
Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and relationship‑building skills.
Commitment to student safety, wellness, character development, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship.
Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, families, school leadership, and staff.
Enthusiasm for helping students build confidence, healthy habits, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.
Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
Must be able to work in person at the school campus.
