RN/Registered Nurse Weekend - NIGHT SHIFT - Emergency Nursing

Overview Professional registered nurse (RN) under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, providing patient advocacy and nursing process application in line with Brown University Health values.
Responsibilities Recognize and report deviations from patient or established norms.
Identify deviations from established norms not related to chief patient’s complaints.
Report patient’s responses to treatment(s) and document nursing interventions.
Provide basic comfort and support according to patient needs.
Foster patient and family participation in achieving optimum functioning and performing activities of daily living.
Set priorities in individual patient’s assignments.
Seek guidance and resources when necessary in management of patient care.
Identify and assess emergency situations, initiate appropriate response and intervention, and plan for potential needs.
Define nursing diagnosis and expected patient outcomes.
Modify nursing plan of care based on diagnosis and/or outcomes.
Document on appropriate nursing assessment forms.
Implement nursing interventions and evaluate based on patient outcomes, modifying the plan of care and documentation accordingly.
Maintain knowledge of contemporary professional nursing practice within the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act legal framework.
Attend training and retraining to maintain current knowledge of hospital and patient care practices and procedures.
Utilize established protocols and collaborate with the health team to facilitate therapeutic interventions and desired patient outcomes.
Participate in quality improvement processes and risk management activities.
Attend unit‑based or hospital meetings to facilitate patient care management.
Integrate complete physical assessment with nursing assessment, record reviews, and develop comprehensive individualized plan of care.
Follow all documentation guidelines per policy and procedure.
Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control as per hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Demonstrate self‑direction in maintaining and advancing clinical and professional competency.
Provide functional guidance and direction to LPNs, CNAs, and other licensed personnel as required.
Assume shift charge responsibility on an assigned unit when required, including maintaining an overview of unit activities and delegating work responsibilities equitably.
Make bed and patient assignments, assign primary patients to staff, and perform other duties as necessary.
Qualifications Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state(s) or under the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred; graduate of a school of nursing.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in applicable state(s).
Conformity to the Code of Professional Nurses.
Understanding of the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act provisions.
Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation upon hire (American Heart Association BLS).
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural diversity.
Experience General proficiency as a staff nurse expected within three months of employment.
Preferred general nursing experience appropriate to the specialty unit.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements Prolonged standing and walking; exposure to all patient elements; may be required to lift/turn patients and equipment; repeated bending, squatting, stooping.
Compensation and Scheduling Per‑diem rate $60.00 per hour for RNs. Eligible for shift differentials according to Brown Health Pay Practice and Eligibility Rules.
Minimum 24 worked hours per four‑week schedule, with 12‑hour shifts. At least 12 of these hours must be night shifts (eligible for differential) and at least 12 must be weekend hours. Holiday commitments include one major and one minor holiday.
