Transportation HR Generalist

Position Overview Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to supervise day‑to‑day training operations and support workforce analysis within the Human Resources Office. The position oversees staff responsible for coordinating, scheduling, developing, and delivering employee training programs while also providing workforce data analysis and reporting to support Human Resources operations and decision‑making. This frontline Human Resources supervisory role ensures training activities are administered effectively, employees receive required and job‑specific training, and workforce data is maintained and analyzed to support organizational needs. The supervisor manages a small team of training professionals, coordinates training logistics and program delivery, and provides guidance on routine human resources matters. Work is performed under general supervision, with overall training strategy, program direction, and complex human resources matters managed by senior HR leadership.
Salary and Location Salary: $59,737.60 – $84,323.20 per year (Salary Schedule)
Location: Augusta, ME
Key Responsibilities Supervise a team of training professionals in the planning, scheduling, development, and delivery of employee training programs.
Coordinate training logistics and ensure programs are delivered efficiently and effectively.
Provide workforce data analysis, reporting, and recommendations to support Human Resources operations and decision‑making.
Ensure employees receive required and job‑specific training and that training compliance is maintained.
Serve as a frontline supervisory resource for routine human resources matters.
Qualifications Minimum of six (6) years of combined education, training, and/or professional experience in employee development, workforce training, organizational learning, or human resources.
Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting workforce data, evaluating program effectiveness, preparing reports and recommendations, and coordinating or administering employee development initiatives.
Preferred supervisory experience.
Benefits Paid time off: 13 paid holidays and 3+ weeks of vacation leave annually (vacation accrual increases with years of service).
Overtime‑exempt employees receive personal leave.
12 days of sick leave annually.
Health: State pays 85‑95% of employee‑only premiums. Dental: State pays 100% of employee‑only dental premiums.
Retirement: State contributes 18.91% of employee pay to MainePERS.
Other wellness benefits available through the Office of Employee Health and Wellness.
