Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. Job Summary
The research physician investigator is responsible for diagnosing and treating cancers and blood disorders while integrating cutting-edge research into clinical practice. Key responsibilities include oversight of clinical trials, consulting with referring physicians, and developing individualized treatment plans based on the stage and prognosis of the disease. The physician investigator actively monitors patient progress throughout their participation on a clinical trial which includes testing, evaluation, and treatment. Additionally, this role includes oversight of research staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and participating in regular meetings with clinic physician owners and management to address research involvement in the practice goals. A commitment to continuing medical education and professional development is required.

The investigator will continue Highlands’ mission of advancing medical science and providing phase I first-in-human cancer care to the community by ensuring rigorous protocol adherence, fostering innovative research collaborations, and translating scientific discoveries into effective outcomes for patients.
Supervisory Responsibilities
An investigator is responsible for ensuring that an investigation is conducted according to the signed investigator statement, the investigational plan, and applicable regulations; for protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of subjects under the investigator's care; and for the control of drugs under investigation. The investigator is accountable for all staff, overall conduct, integrity, and quality of the research, as well as the protection of participants' rights and well-being.
Job Duties / Responsibilities

Examine, diagnose, and treat disorders and diseases related to cancer and blood.
Serve as the medical and scientific leader for assigned clinical trials.
Ensure all studies are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA regulations, IRB requirements, institutional policies, study protocols, and applicable law.
Oversee the safety, rights, and welfare of research participants throughout study participation.
Evaluate protocol feasibility and determine whether studies are appropriate for the patient population and research program.
Provide medical oversight for participant screening, enrollment, treatment, and follow-up activities.
Review, assess, and document adverse events, serious adverse events, protocol deviations, and safety concerns.
Ensure accurate and timely completion of study-related documentation, source records, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain delegation of authority and ensure appropriately qualified staff perform study-related duties.
Provide ongoing supervision, training, and mentorship to research personnel.
Participate in sponsor meetings, investigator meetings, monitoring visits, audits, and inspections.
Review and approve study documents.
Collaborate with sponsors, CROs, regulatory agencies, and institutional leadership regarding study conduct and performance.
Foster relationships with sponsors and industry partners to identify and activate new research opportunities.
Participate in publication, presentation, and dissemination of research findings when appropriate.
Engage with and contribute to the local community and relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities

Graduate from an accredited institution of higher education with a medical degree.
Proficient with research regulations and industry standards.
Proficient in computer skills including EMR and Microsoft Office.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
Maintain continuing education hours as required.
Maintain all licenses, certifications, and qualifications current as required.
Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field

• MD or DO.
• Must possess a current and valid license in the state of Arkansas.

~ BLS & ACLS.

• 2-4 years research and/or oncology experience preferred.
• Familiarity with latest standard of care concepts, practices, and procedures within oncology.
• CCRP, CCRC, CCRA, or equivalent preferred.

May be asked to lift up to 25 pounds. Lifting could include binders, reams of paper, and office supplies.
Will require extensive desk and computer use.
