Schedule: Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Every 4th weekend rotation required
On‑call rotation required; additional shifts beyond FTE may vary based on department needs
Role Overview
This role provides comprehensive nursing care for obstetric and gynecologic patients, including labor, delivery, birth, postpartum, and couplet care, as well as post‑operative care for gynecologic patients.
Job Summary
Manages women’s services activities, workflow and nursing resources.
Primary Responsibilities
Collect and analyze pertinent health data to develop and implement individualized plans of care that include interventions to attain expected, measurable outcomes for women and newborns within a woman-, newborn- and family-centered context.
Coordinate care delivery to promote woman-, newborn-, and family-centered care within scope of practice, using health teaching strategies that promote, maintain, or restore health in a safe environment.
Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes for women, newborns and families.
Make ethical decisions and actions on behalf of women, fetuses and newborns, guided by sound ethical frameworks and cultural diversity principles.
Communicate and collaborate with women, families, health care providers and the community to provide safe and holistic care.
Serve as a role model, change agent, consultant and mentor to women, families, health care consumers and other professionals, maintaining current evidence-based nursing practice knowledge.
Generate or integrate evidence to examine and evaluate interprofessional knowledge and theories, and implement new measures to improve nursing practice for women and newborns.
Assess own nursing practice and participate in evaluation of others in relation to professional standards and guidelines, statutes, and regulations, considering safety, effectiveness, technology and fiscal responsibility.
Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner when planning and delivering care.
Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to women's services nursing practice, ensuring care is delivered based on patient age and clinical needs.
Remain alert and maintain patient safety at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
Experience
No experience required.
Physical Requirements
Constant use of speech for oral communication.
Constant standing and walking.
Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0‑25 lbs.
Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances, and color identification.
Frequent use of smell to detect odors.
Frequent use of hearing for oral communication and alarms.
Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25‑50 lbs.
Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
Occasional driving.
Rare crawling and running.
Required Professional License And/Or Certifications
Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA)
Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
Advanced Life Support (ALS) – American Heart Association (AHA)
Or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Academy Pediatrics (AAP)
Or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association (AHA)
Or NRP Essentials – American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
