Clinical Nurse II – Endoscopy Services

Duke University Health System seeks to hire an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – CN II who will embrace our mission of Transforming Lives, Transforming Care.

The Endoscopy Services Department at Duke Regional Hospital is a gastroenterology/bronchoscopy procedural area with four procedure rooms. The team delivers exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time.

Registered Nurses (RNs) in Endoscopy assess, prepare, and monitor patients before, during, and after GI or pulmonary procedures (colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, bronchoscopy). The role requires the ability to recognize and act on potential life‑threatening changes, multitasking, critical thinking, and collaboration with a diverse medical team. Responsibilities include interpretation of EKGs and delivery of pharmacologic agents with continuous monitoring of vitals.

Shift

4–8 hour shifts Monday–Friday with alternating arrival times beginning at 7:00 am up to 8:30 am.

For emergencies only – approximately one week every 10–12 weeks: after hours (5 pm–7 am – 14 hrs), weekends (24 hrs) and holidays. Standby call is always with a Surgical Technician. Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process.

Use professional nursing judgment to individualize care based on assessment.

Delegate tasks and supervise other licensed and unlicensed care providers.

Act as a team leader or charge nurse as assigned.

Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care.

Identify and participate in clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities.

Knowledge of RN, LPN, and unlicensed staff scope of practice.

Application of the nursing process.

Computer proficiency and learning new software.

Provide clinical care within the organization.

Infection control and safety precautions.

Completion of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.

Pre‑employment physical capacity testing required.

Graduation from an accredited BSN program. Registered nurses hired between July1, 2014, and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree are encouraged to enroll within two years of their start date but must complete it within seven years. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program.

Must have current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina.
