Job Description

TITLE

Registered Nurse - Step-Down Unit

SCHEDULE

• Shift Type: Days/Nights
• Weekend Coverage: Typically 1/month

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: Not explicitly stated

REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Illinois RN license required
• Minimum 2 years RN experience required
• Certifications: ACLS, NIHSS, BLS
• Experience with stroke and cardiac populations preferred
• Experience with Cerner for charting required
• Key clinical skills: ventilator care, telemetry, IV start/maintenance, central line/PICC care, trach care, CRRT familiarity, IABP exposure, management of post-thrombolytic stroke care

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the step-down unit.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, including vital signs and neurological status.
• Administer medications and coordinate patient care according to established protocols.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families on post-procedural care and health management.
• Maintain documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.

COMPLIANCE / NOTES

• No RTO first week; max ~7 days RTO per 13-week contract.
• May be asked to float within the service line or to affiliated hospitals.
• Background checks and drug screens may be required.
• Free parking available; bring a locker lock and lunch or money (~$10 for cafeteria).
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine NOT required.
