Registration Investigator

$9,840.00 - $13,459.00 per Month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.

Job Summary
Title: Supervising Investigator II, Department of Motor Vehicles (class code 8540). This is a Peace Officer position subject to P.O.S.T. requirements.

Responsibilities

Conduct highly confidential and complex criminal investigations pertaining to internal security, employee misconduct, document integrity, public funds, burglary of offices, tampering with official records and systems, and other special cases of a criminal nature.

Participate as a DMV law enforcement representative in multi‑agency criminal investigations and assignments involving Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, and other law‑enforcement or allied agencies.

Provide direct criminal investigative testimony, witness, advisory, and services to State and Federal courts, other law‑enforcement or allied agencies, and DMV legal staff.

Perform the full range of peace officer duties and responsibilities, including effecting and assisting in arrests of criminal suspects, issuing misdemeanor and registration‑violation citations, serving and assisting with search warrants, and other duties required.

Qualifications

Pass background investigation, psychological and medical examinations in accordance with state hiring restrictions.

Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsements and/or restrictions as applicable.

Ability to conduct investigations, work effectively in a team, and collaborate with community partners.
