Position Summary
This role has organizational‑wide management responsibilities as a key risk manager for the system. It provides guidance and best practice in high‑risk patient situations, including patient and family events, device malfunctions, staff investigations, and risk assessments on specific organizational risk exposure. The position is responsible for creating and delivering training, leading large group presentations, and serving as the day‑to‑day resource to clinicians and hospital staff on risk issues.
The role manages the Family Liaison function, providing strategic program and process development as well as operational day‑to‑day management, including process development, training, and incident trend analysis. Additional responsibilities include assisting with medical device recalls, environment of care assessments, and general liability claims.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Social Work, or another healthcare‑related field required. Master’s level degree or juris doctor preferred.
Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of hospital or clinic practice with staff management experience, including process improvement and training development and delivery. Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively with families of patients with complex psychosocial issues, and proficiency in computer usage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strategic program and operational management of the Family Liaison function, supervising direct reports.
Primary focus on risk assessment and guidance on family issues, complaints, safety/harm cases.
Guidance on adoption and surrogacy matters within the Children’s system.
Management of risk events involving families, patient safety or harm through coordination with Clinical Risk Manager, insurance, claims, and outside legal counsel.
Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations and laws.
Tracking and documentation of incidents with trend reporting.
Creation and facilitation of training for clinical and family‑relations staff.
Availability for on‑call coverage and pager duty across various shifts.
Evaluation and prioritization of multiple and often competing demands.
Compensation and Benefits
The posted salary represents a market‑competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries are based on full‑time employment (40 standard hours per week). Part‑time positions are prorated based on scheduled weekly hours relative to full‑time. Pay rates consider market indicators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, internal equity, and organizational needs.
In addition to salary, the position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions requiring night, weekend, or on‑call duties may qualify for shift differentials or premium pay.
All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of an occupational health assessment, drug screen, background investigation, and compliance with U.S. Government Form I‑9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
