Histotechnologist, Lab Pathology, Nights

Carex is partnering with a biotechindustry partner to hire a Histotechnologist I for a Friday - Monday schedule from 11:00am - 9:30pm . This role supports a CLIA/CAP-certified histopathology laboratory by performing a variety of histology procedures used to produce tissue slides and support laboratory operations. The Histotechnologist I will follow all safety, quality control, and laboratory procedures while supporting histology, pathology, and molecular laboratory functions with a strong emphasis on quality, accuracy, and teamwork.

Perform routine histology procedures including tissue sectioning, fixation, embedding, processing, and hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining for fresh frozen (FF) and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples according to SOPs

Label and document FFPE blocks, slides, microcentrifuge tubes, and accessioned samples using laboratory information systems (LIS)

Accession and enter patient sample data and testing requests into LIS accurately and efficiently

Prepare reagents, solutions, controls, and laboratory materials as needed

Maintain, calibrate, and document histology equipment maintenance and quality control activities

File and store slides and tissue blocks according to laboratory procedures

Monitor and manage histology work queues while prioritizing tasks with minimal supervision

Assist with specimen quality review and sample return processes

Interact with pathologists and laboratory staff to ensure timely, high-quality specimen processing

Support inventory, material receipt, and reagent management activities

Provide technical assistance and training support to team members as needed

Adhere to all safety standards, quality management system policies, and laboratory procedures

Maintain accurate records and documentation within information management systems

Support laboratory operations during nights, weekends, and overtime as needed

Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program and 2+ years of laboratory experience (including one year from program completion)

High school diploma and 4+ years of laboratory experience

Associate degree in a scientific field and 2+ years of laboratory experience

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field

Basic computer skills including internet navigation and email usage

Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment

Ability to use laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, pipettes, blades, and strainers for extended periods

Ability to work with hazardous materials and comply with all PPE requirements

Experience in histology laboratory procedures including tissue processing, sectioning, embedding, slide preparation, H&E staining, macrodissection, and troubleshooting

Experience working within a CLIA/CAP-certified laboratory environment
