Transportation Engineer

The Chesterfield County Department of Transportation (CDOT) is a dynamic group of professionals committed to excellence in transportation engineering and project delivery. CDOT manages a broad portfolio of projects ranging from the design and construction of crosswalks to major highways and bridges, working in close collaboration with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), who maintains those assets upon project completion.

This Transportation Engineer will serve as a project manager for a range of infrastructure projects, assuming increasing responsibility. In this position, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of solutions that enhance the safety and efficiency of our transportation systems. Assist in researching, analyzing, and evaluating transportation projects and initiatives.

Collaborate with other engineers to develop and implement innovative solutions to address transportation challenges.

Manage consultants and contractors throughout the project delivery process from the inception of a project to construction completion and closeout.

Engage with community stakeholders, government agencies, and other relevant partners to gather input and support for transportation initiatives.

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a minimum of four years of comparable work-related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)/ Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.

A growth mindset and an intrinsic motivation to do quality work.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a functional knowledge of transportation and engineering-related software is preferred.

Familiarity with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and VDOT standards, specifications, and procedures.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
