Infections Control Preventionist

Infection Preventionist 2 The Infection Preventionist 2 implements and reviews the facility's infection prevention program. The role also serves as a subject matter expert on infection prevention issues for all facility team members.

Designs, implements, and evaluates infection prevention strategies to control infectious agents. Conducts ongoing surveillance using CDC infection criteria. Evaluates the surveillance plan's effectiveness and modifies it as necessary.

Reports patients with communicable diseases to the appropriate health authority.

Evaluates the infection prevention program. Plans, organizes, develops, and implements educational programs to increase employee awareness of the existence of healthcare-associated infections.

Participates in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare-associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis.

Partners with teams and team members to create, educate, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention strategies, as well as give feedback.

Participates in educational activities, professional meetings, and peer networking. Reviews literature to stay updated on healthcare and infection control research.

Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory compliance issues for infection control

Subject matter expertise in infection prevention and control values and practices

Skill in the use of computers and related software applications

Partnership, leadership, and conflict resolution

Data collection and testing, report writing, and data presentation

Certification/License/Registration - Cert in Infection Control (CIC-CBIC)
