Position Overview
This position is within a 40-bed medical-surgical unit that emphasizes a collaborative and supportive nursing environment. The unit operates with a 1:5 RN-to-patient ratio, providing care primarily to post-surgical patients, including those recovering from trauma, plastic surgery, vascular procedures, and other surgical interventions. The fast-paced atmosphere requires strong clinical skills and effective teamwork.
Shift Details
~ Shift Type: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)

Patient Care Details
Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
Average Daily Census: 31
Common Diagnoses: Trauma, Acute Surgical Post-op, including bowel resections, complex wounds, gunshot wounds, total abdominal hysterectomy, and various surgical specialties such as Plastics, Trauma, Neurosurgery, GI, and more.
Unit Information
Patient Ratio: 5 patients per RN
Float Requirement: Required to float to medical-surgical units
Weekend Coverage: True, with six weekend days required per six-week schedule
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of charge experience preferred
Certifications:

BLS

Skills Required:
Accessing/Managing Ports
Managing BiPAP/CPAP
Blood Product Administration
Central Line Care/Management
Phlebotomy, and other advanced nursing skills

Support Services
The unit is supported by various interdisciplinary teams, including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, and a Rapid Response Team, among others.
