Part-Time Training Instructor

Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA New England, Togus VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Augusta, ME and is organizationally aligned under Environmental Management Service (EMS). Responsibilities The Training Instructor has substantive administrative and managerial authority for creating curriculum and conducting comprehensive training and education program for Medical Support Assistants (MSAs) and other administrative personnel assigned to scheduling patients. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Develops, implements, maintains comprehensive training-initial and ongoing-plus competency evaluation programs. EMS procedures, infection control, waste, linen care, regulatory/industry trends, leadership, adult learning. Coordinates courses, instruction methods, uses creative strategies; adult learning principles, system-wide focus. Ensures compliance with EMS quality standards, regulatory and accreditation standards, evidence-based practices. Leadership in committees/taskforces, mentors staff, fosters collaboration and stakeholder partnerships. Maintains library/curriculum, updates on industry research, adapts for new developments, continuous revision. Addresses confidentiality, data security, follows ethical conduct for diverse staff/community. Builds partnerships, collaborates with other services, community, and facility stakeholders. Proactive evaluation: data analysis, adverse trend investigation, course updates, tracking of competency over time. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Training Specialist, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of education and administration and of the methods and techniques of instruction, includes: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc. and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR Education: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.if related, in a major study - Education or a subject area related to the Training Specialist position. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the Training Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR Combination of Experience and Education: Equivalent combination of successfully graduate level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience, as described above, which may be used to meet total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses in Education or a subject area related to the position and such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the Training Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The position requires frequent travel to all divisions and CBOCS in the VAMEHS by government vehicle to conduct interviews, meetings, and educational activities. The employee is required to work with computer equipment at least 75% of the time, which impacts on hand and wrist motions. Although the employee works in a healthcare facility where exposure to contagious disease exist, the tasks required for this position do not put the employee at a serious risk for this type of exposure.
