Phlebotomist Lab, part time night shift

Location & Shift Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre (GSWB) - Nights
Job Summary Phlebotomy Technician Lab Assistant II collects, accessions, and processes patient specimens in preparation for testing in the various sections of Laboratory Medicine. The role functions in a technical and non‑technical capacity to assess specimen fitness for all levels of testing and to perform waived testing where designated.
Handle potentially infectious specimens safely in compliance with regulatory standards.
Process specimens with centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling, and deliver them to the appropriate testing areas in a timely manner.
Assign billing numbers, location codes, and physician numbers and verify unclear physician orders.
Navigate multiple computer applications, maintain computer logs, quality control, and disinfection procedures.
Manage phone inquiries and provide information regarding specimen collection, transport, and patient results.
Mentor new employees and students, assist with packaging, ordering, and referral to reference laboratories.
Maintain equipment, participate in preventive maintenance, and report equipment problems and low inventory.
Perform additional testing processes within the scope of assigned duties as needed.
Complete assigned training, competency exams, and continuing education requirements.
Provide phlebotomy coverage to medical group offices, skilled nursing facilities, and in‑home phlebotomy for homebound patients.
Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Minimum of 1 year related experience in phlebotomy or a related field (e.g., Valid certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or graduate of an ASCP‑approved program.
Ability to perform venipuncture and skin puncture under supervision.
Willingness to complete competency exams, training, and continuing education.
Military experience in a medical role is an advantage.
