Muon seeks a Camera Systems Engineer to join our team in Mountain View, CA developing infrared remote sensing instruments. This position is hybrid and requires working on‑site in our Mountain View, CA office three days per week.
Own development of visible and thermal infrared camera subsystems including generation of technical specifications and interface control documents (ICDs), trade studies, vendor technical management, performance characterization and testing, and failure mode and root cause analysis.
Define camera test requirements, pass/fail criteria, and test strategies, partnering closely with the hardware and test engineering teams to ensure infrastructure meets subsystem needs.
Define parameters for camera environmental qualification campaigns, including radiation testing and thermal environmental stress screening (ESS), reviewing test data and acting as the technical authority on camera subsystem health.
Support subsystem and instrument‑level testing, including environmental (vibration, thermal‑vacuum (TVAC) testing and system characterization/V&V).
Collaborate and communicate effectively with instrument and spacecraft systems engineers, data scientists, AI&T and production teams, and program managers.
D. in an engineering field, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience working in a multi‑disciplinary environment, with demonstrated experience with imaging systems and infrared remote sensing instruments.
Software skills in one or more languages (e.g. Python, C++).
Experience working with precision optical and mechanical metrology equipment.
Experience with root cause analysis efforts including data analysis and testing.
Experience performing data analysis, post‑processing, and test report generation for optical component and camera system performance.
Exposure to design and analysis of optical components and systems.
Experience with risk management, including risk tracking and development and implementation of mitigation plans.
The salary range for this role is $184,000 - $202,000 plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package.
