School Nurse
Plans/implements a comprehensive school health service program. Note: Student and staff treatment is limited to the evaluation of symptoms and administering emergency first aid. Duties may require traveling to buildings throughout the NwOESC service area.
Holds/maintains valid Ohio Board of Nursing and State Board of Education Pupil Services license or registration as a school nurse.
Documents/maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.
Note: Employees must obtain training and maintain skills to fulfill compliance requirements applicable to the position as required by board policy and state/federal law.
Implements school health services that focus on prevention and early intervention. Provides health education, counseling and student advocacy in partnership with community resources that support a sense of well-being and capacity for academic success.
Informs staff about individual student medical conditions and emergency action plans.
Prepares the school clinic. Implements procedures to ensure that medicines are administered and stored safely.
Administers first aid. Investigates and documents injuries.
Reviews medical emergency authorization forms. Ensures permission forms are on file as needed for the release of health information. Ensures required state minimum student health screening activities are completed.
Ensures the immunization status of all students complies with state law.
Evaluates visual, hearing, or other student health concerns. Recommends medical referrals.
Consults with student's doctor to make exclusion or school readmission recommendations.
Consults with staff to facilitate the early identification of health risks.
Assesses student health conditions. Collaborates with doctors to develop student health care plans. Coordinates in-services for staff providing care for students with special medical needs.
Helps students monitor and manage acute/chronic medical conditions as needed.
Helps students make appropriate choices and improve personal skills. Pursues quality work results. Encourages community involvement in school-sponsored activities.
Participates in the development of best practices and advancement of academic standards.
Serves as a reliable information resource.
~ Refers administrative procedure and policy questions to an appropriate administrator. Respects diversity.

Pursues opportunities to enhance personal performance.
Updates personal skills as needed to effectively utilize task-appropriate technology.
Keeps current with emergency management plan procedures.
Takes precautions to prevent the loss of equipment and supplies.
Complies with all legal statutes when dealing with discrimination, inappropriate behavior or suspected child abuse/neglect.
Implements effective pupil management procedures. Helps implement workplace initiatives to advance organizational goals.

Performance Evaluation: Employee performance is evaluated according to applicable law, board policies, contractual agreements and service center administrative procedures.
