Position Summary The Security Officer position is responsible for the day to day activities of ensuring a safe and secure Children's campus. The Security Officer will maintain a safe environment through patrol of the hospital, grounds and outlying buildings. The Security Officer's core role is to promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital employees. * Must possess a valid driver's license (must meet minimum criteria of Children's Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy). * Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS). * Good verbal, writing and computer skills required. * Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire. * Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire. * Education: * High school diploma or equivalent required. * Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred. Experience: * Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy preferred. * Prior Law Enforcement or security experience preferred. * Emergency Operations Center experience preferred. * License/Certification Preferences: * POST skills completed, International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (Basic), First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or OSHA first responder certifications preferred. * Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), a plus. Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing. * Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies. * Must be customer service oriented. * Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions. * Ability to detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations. * Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required. * Physical Demands Please click here to view the Physical Demands The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee's scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
