Art Museum Registrar

Position Overview Museum Registrar for the Oklahoma Historical Society. The role reports to the Director of Museum Collections and offices at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. The registrar will manage documentation, care, and movement of permanent museum collections and loans across OHS sites.

Responsibilities Collections Management : Maintain and update the Argus database; ensure accurate records of provenance, condition, and location; verify compliance with museum policies and legal requirements; process objects into the permanent collection; support OHS museums and sites; assess donations; oversee inventories and collections audits; conduct a full cultural sensitivity review.

Documentation, Records, & Logistics : Maintain acquisition, gift, loan, and conservation records; coordinate incoming/outgoing loans; generate loan agreements, manage schedules, support insurance, packing, and transportation; conduct condition reports.

Preservation & Conservation : Monitor environmental conditions; inspect, clean, and maintain storage spaces; collaborate with conservators; address conservation needs.

Administrative Duties : Supervise interns, volunteers, and part‑time staff; generate reports; monitor supplies; communicate proactively; maintain reliable attendance; follow museum policies and safety regulations; perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of professional museum standards and best practices, including registration methods, accessioning, deaccessioning, cataloging, coordinating loans, location and inventory control, safe object handling and storage, packing and shipping, security measures, and Integrated Pest Management.

Strong organizational and data‑management skills with keen attention to accuracy and detail.

Excellent research skills and ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources.

Strong computer skills and proficiency in Argus, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat.

Ability to set and meet deadlines and manage multiple projects, ensuring quality and timely deliverables.

Exceptional problem‑solving, interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, art history, or a related field (Master’s preferred); minimum 2 years experience in museum registration or collections management (combined advanced degree and experience acceptable).

Work Environment Occasional evenings and weekends for exhibit installations and disassemblies.

Safe handling of delicate objects and use of power and manual tools.

Physical requirements: stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting, crawling, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, lifting up to 40 lbs.; lifting boxes, crates, and oversized artifacts.

Extensive repetitive movements—typing and periods of sitting or standing.

Navigation of galleries, storage, and loading docks; some in‑state same‑day travel with an agency‑provided vehicle.

Salary and Benefits Annual salary: $42,000‑$48,000 (based on education and experience).
