Job Title ILS Training Specialist (RESA IV) - Applied Research Laboratories
Purpose Serve as a Training Specialist responsible for delivering formal system operation and maintenance training to active‑duty Navy personnel and industry partners for the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) at ARL.
Responsibilities Develop and maintain comprehensive curriculum material for unique underwater sensor systems and a system of unmanned underwater vehicles with tactical sensors.
Team member in the development of operator training materials and provide operator training.
Create test and maintenance procedures and formal work packages.
Develop technical documentation and manuals to support operation and maintenance of unique underwater sensors.
Participate in system testing, maintenance, and training onboard an Operational Training Platform, UUV support platforms, or on U.S. Navy platforms.
Provide field engineering support, troubleshooting, assembling and repairing electromechanical assemblies, computers, and computer networks using manuals and automated electronic tools.
Serve as Assistant Training Coordinator for an integrated team of Navy, contractor, and laboratory personnel, reviewing and approving all training materials, scheduling and coordinating training activities.
Perform liaison tasks with sponsoring organizations and prepare and present formal progress and status briefs on ongoing activities.
Maintain working relationships with vendors, program sponsors, and system operators from the U.S. Navy.
Research and incorporate new technologies for system enhancements.
Assist Supervisor and Engineers as required, and travel as required.
Respond to emergent needs of end‑users of advanced sensors with respect to logistics and operational availability.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree.
Six years of experience in the operation, test, evaluation and employment of sophisticated Navy systems, including underwater acoustic systems.
Detailed knowledge of training product and curriculum development.
Ability to deliver training to active‑duty Navy and industry partners.
Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and execute installation, test and maintenance procedures of complex systems using formal Navy systems and processes.
Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and training, including expertise in developing and applying system‑level operating and troubleshooting procedures.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Proactive, organized, and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing time.
Attention to detail, effective problem‑solving skills, and excellent judgment.
Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients.
Ability to work under pressure and accept supervision; regular and punctual attendance.
U.S. Citizen.
Selected applicant is subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at a level appropriate to project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with U.S. Navy processes and procedures for the installation, test, maintenance, repair and removal of electronics equipment, including Temporary Alteration (TEMPALT) and Ship Alteration (SHIPALT) processes.
More than six years of experience in the operation, testing and repair of underwater systems and support systems.
Demonstrated ability to work with and interact effectively with Navy enlisted personnel and officers as well as contractor system providers.
