Description:
This position requires availability to work nights, days, or evenings. A combination of all shifts is expected. Schedule will be provided two weeks prior to the start of that week. The unit has a bed capacity of 109. On-call duties are required. Floating to other units may be necessary. Weekend coverage is required every other week. Patient population includes inpatient and outpatient. Unit details include ratios that depend on inpatient/outpatient census and shift type. Skills required include:

Hospital experience
Outpatient lab experience
Knowledge of CLSI recommended order of blood draws
Ability to prioritize patient collections based on order requests (stat, timed, routine)
Experience in processing specimens for the laboratory (centrifuge, aliquot, storage)
Proficiency with various blood collection tubes and methods
Ability to deliver specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner
Knowledge of proper specimen preservation and transport
Familiarity with quality assurance and controls
Patient age groups served range from neonates to geriatrics. The census and number of visits vary daily. Emergency situations must be identified and responded to appropriately. Proper disposal and handling of hazardous materials are essential. The use of standard precautions and transmission-based precautions is required.
