Pay Rate: $47.93$51.93 / Hour (USD)
Shift / Schedule: 12-hour nights (3x12), 18:457:15
Travel Requirements: Travel nursing contract; travelers required to work every other weekend

Job Summary
This is a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) travel nursing position at a healthcare facility in Winston Salem, NC. The unit cares primarily for Stroke patients, and also cares for possible Neurosurgery patients as well as other Neuro diagnoses, such as Epilepsy, Traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and many more. The unit maintains a 42 daily census with 43 rooms/beds and includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); the unit trains nurses for the EMU, which does not typically affect travelers unless they have been specifically trained. The facility uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR as unit systems.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
Perform IV starts and telemetry monitoring
Interpret and manage dysrhythmias
Provide care for stroke, neurosurgery, and neuro-diagnosis patients including those with Epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and related conditions
Float to any other MS/Tele areas as required, which may include COVID care units
Work every other weekend as required
Make up any called-out shift the same week or at the end of contract
Make up any missed weekend shifts based on the needs of the unit if a scheduled weekend shift is called
If RTO includes weekends, time will be added to the end of the contract to make up for those dates
Required Skills
IV Start and Telemetry
Interpretation of dysrhythmias and Management of dysrhythmias
Med/Surg Neuro experience
Must have Med/Surg experience
Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty
Ability to work with PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR unit systems
Preferred Scheduling; block scheduling is not always guaranteed
Frequent floating may be required
Preferred Skills
~ ACLS certification

Education Requirements
BCLS (required)
NIH / NIHSS (required)
ACLS (preferred, not required)
Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
Required Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience with at least 1 year of direct Medical-Surgical experience
Must have at least 2 successful travel nursing contracts before applying the unit will not accept first-time travelers
Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• 12-hour night shifts (3x12), 18:457:15
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
• Unit accepts 36-hour or 48-hour work weeks
• Floating required to any other MS/Tele areas; may include COVID care units; frequent floating may be required
• Travelers required to work every other weekend
• If a traveler calls out of a shift, they are expected to make up that day the same week or at the end of their contract
• If a traveler calls in for a scheduled weekend shift, weekend shifts must be made up based on the needs of the unit
• If RTO includes weekends, time will be added to the end of contract to make up for those dates
• Unit orientation: 36 hours
• Scrubs: Navy
• 42 daily census; 43 rooms/beds
• 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) on the unit; travelers are not typically assigned to EMU unless specifically trained

Important Notes
RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
Travelers must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
Block scheduling is not always guaranteed.
