Human Resources Generalist (Evening
Hawai'i Association Of Independent Schools
The HR Generalist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources department by administering policies, procedures, and programs that ensure an efficient, compliant, and people‑centered workplace. This role provides direct support in recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, HR compliance, and personnel record management. The HR Generalist works closely with leadership, faculty, and staff to promote a positive, mission‑aligned culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment & Staffing
Coordinate full‑cycle recruitment for faculty, staff, and hourly positions.
Post job openings, screen applicants, schedule interviews, and support hiring managers.
Conduct reference checks and ensure all pre‑employment requirements are completed.
Maintain updated job descriptions and organizational charts.
Onboarding & Offboarding
Facilitate new hire onboarding, including orientation, paperwork, and system setup.
Ensure employees understand school policies, benefits, and expectations.
Process employee separations, conduct exit interviews, and ensure proper documentation.
Employee Relations
Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and HR support.
Assist with conflict resolution, coaching conversations, and policy interpretation.
Support initiatives that strengthen staff morale, communication, and workplace culture.
Administration Benefits
Assist employees with benefits enrollment, changes, and general inquiries.
Coordinate with benefit providers to resolve issues.
Support annual open enrollment and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
HR Compliance & Recordkeeping
Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files in compliance with federal and state laws.
Ensure adherence to labor laws, school policies, and accreditation requirements.
Track mandatory training, certifications, and background checks.
Support audits and reporting requirements.
Payroll & Timekeeping Support
Review timesheets for accuracy and compliance with overtime and leave policies.
Coordinate with payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing.
Monitor attendance, leave balances, and FMLA/medical leave documentation.
Policy & Process Support
Assist in updating HR policies, handbooks, and procedures.
Recommend improvements to HR workflows and employee experience.
Support performance evaluation processes and documentation.
HR Projects & School Support
Participate in HR initiatives such as professional development, staff appreciation, and culture‑building activities.
Front Office Coverage.
Support leadership with data, reports, and special projects as needed.
Assist with school‑wide events requiring HR coordination.
Education / Other Requirements
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
1-3 years of HR experience, preferably in education or nonprofit settings.
Knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and confidentiality standards.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Hours and days can be flexible based on activities/events. Some weekend and evening hours.
