Mental Health LPN - Full Time Evenings

Position Overview
On a day‑to‑day basis, as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, you will support patient care that makes a clear difference at SCI Dallas. This role allows you to use your nursing skills in a setting where your attention and compassion matter every day. Responsibilities
This position delivers nursing care and treatment to inmates with physical or mental health needs, behavioral challenges, or developmental disabilities. The role supports daily functioning, medical assessments, treatments, reporting, and emergency response within the facility.

Care Delivery: Check vital signs, administer medications, provide treatments, and reinforce health education.

Clinical Support: Assist clinicians during examinations, screenings, immunizations, and testing procedures.

Emergency Actions: Provide first aid, CPR, AED response, and assessments during medical emergencies.

Record Keeping: Document care activities, update electronic health records, and prepare reports for transfers or release.

Supply Management: Sterilize instruments, maintain inventory, and ensure adequate stock in treatment areas.

Skill Development: Participate in required training and maintain knowledge of policies and procedures.

Work Schedule and Benefits

Full‑time employment.

Three shifts cover 24/7/365:

1. st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm;
2. nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm;
3. rd shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am.

Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Telework: Not available.

Starting annual salary $68,914.00 before taxes for candidates new to Pennsylvania employment.

Qualifications and Requirements

Active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.

Those with a temporary practice permit must obtain a PA Licensed Practical Nurse license within one (1) year.

PA residency requirement currently waived.

Applicants within 60 days of completing an approved licensed practical nursing program are eligible; must present proof of a current PA temporary practice permit or license at appointment.

Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA required.

Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.

Veterans Preference

Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. § 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
