Why does the job exist?
The primary purpose of the position is to provide specialized nursing care and access to medical, dental, optometry, psychiatry, and specialty services in a 24 hour juvenile correctional facility.

How does it get done?
Assess patient health problems and needs; develop and implement nursing care plans. Maintain medical records and adhere to HIPAA standards. Administration of all types of medications to include oral and injectable for relieving anxiety, controlling behavior and treating physical problems. Performs various medical treatments as ordered by the medical provider in order to assure client's optimal physical and mental wellbeing. Consult and coordinate with health care team members and correctional staff to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care. Maintain Standards of Nursing Care.

Ideal Candidate
Experience in the following areas: 3 years of medical-surgical, Emergency and Psychiatric nursing experience; Providing comprehensive nursing care; Administration of all types of medications; Working with treatment teams; Good assessment and critical thinking skills; Ability to problem solve in high stress situations/settings; Ability to function independently; Personal integrity; Ability to work effectively with client, personnel, and support agencies.

Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions
Clinic setting, exposure to VisualNideo terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage. Exposure to contagious disease, infectious items or trash. Working with sharp instruments and hot autoclave. Continuous reaching, walking and standing. Must be able to lift and carry up to 44 lbs. Adjusted work schedules, shift work, on-call, call-back, weekends and holidays.
