School Nurse

Provide health services to students in assigned schools. Promote health education and preventive health practices for students and staff. Function as a health advocate and liaison between home, school, and community to ensure the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students.

Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program. Valid Registered Nurse license (RN) issued by the Texas Board of Nursing. CPR and First Aid certification (required). Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screening Certification (preferred). Ability to implement policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively with children, parents, staff, and community agencies. Knowledge of public health principles and practices as they relate to school health.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, public health, or community health nursing.

Health Services: Provide direct care to students and staff for injuries, illnesses, and chronic health conditions. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with district policy and physician orders. Manage health records and maintain confidentiality of student information. Identify and refer students with health conditions that require medical attention. Provide emergency first aid and coordinate medical emergency procedures on campus.

Health Education and Promotion: Serve as a health resource for students, staff, and parents. Participate in health education programs and provide classroom presentations on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention. Support district wellness initiatives and health fairs.

Monitor immunization compliance and report data to appropriate state agencies. Prepare and submit required health reports in a timely manner.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with campus administrators, counselors, and teachers to address student health concerns that affect learning. Communicate with parents regarding student health needs and referrals. Serve as a liaison between the district and community health agencies. Maintain professional nursing licensure and certifications. Participate in professional development to remain current on school health trends and best practices. Comply with all district, state, and federal policies and regulations regarding student health and safety.

Emergency Response: Provide first aid and emergency care as needed. Participate in emergency drills and serve on the campus crisis response team. Maintain readiness to respond to medical emergencies at school-sponsored activities when assigned.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and administrative guidelines.
