Welds shell plating, fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies. Previous experience or training is required. Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions. Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal. Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, and any assigned shift. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English). Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape and groove metal.
May prepare workspace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
Materials, Tools, Equipment, Work Aids
Welding machinery, hand tools, high reach equipment and semi auto equipment. Personal protective equipment required.
Frequent to continuous lifting of welding equipment. Standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, seeing, hearing and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings and working in reclined positions, as needed. Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships. General housekeeping in work areas. May be required to attend safety, quality and/or process improvement meetings.
Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which can cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties. Exposure to constantly moving machines, mechanical parts, and high levels of constant noise.
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
