Are you ready to start a meaningful, rewarding career with our Direct Support Professional (DSP) Apprenticeship Program? As a DSP apprentice, you will prepare for a rewarding career in the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) field. You will gain knowledge of Indiana’s Medicaid Waiver structure, best practices, service standards, and the effective management of a SIRS program. Through shadowing and hands‑on experience, you will provide direct support to individuals by implementing person‑centered support, wellness, and behavior plans. You will also learn to respect and understand the rights of those you support, ensure their safety, recognize individual needs, and promote independence across a variety of service settings.

Depending on position, this could include assisting individuals with activities including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transferring while encouraging the individual to perform as much self‑care as possible. Understanding and utilizing adaptive equipment including wheelchairs and belts/locks, Hoyer lifts, etc. and be able to securely load and unload clients’ (Note: Not applicable to all positions.)
Maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for individual(s). Performing general housekeeping and teaching/supporting individual(s) to perform housekeeping.
Understands and follows proper physical safety and emergency protocols.
Must have High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
CPR/First Aid - provided.
Work while standing, walking, and in seated position.
Must be able to complete competency testing throughout the apprenticeship.
