CNC Machinist - Aerospace Manufacturing

CNC Lathe ProgrammerThe CNC Lathe Programmer is responsible for creating, optimizing, and troubleshooting CNC lathe programs to support precision machining operations. This role involves developing efficient machining processes, selecting tooling, and ensuring part quality meets customer and industry standards. The Senior Programmer collaborates with machinists, engineers, and quality teams to drive productivity, reduce cycle times, and continuously improve manufacturing efficiency.Key ResponsibilitiesProgramming & Process Development Develop, proof, and optimize CNC lathe programs for complex parts, including multi-axis and live tooling applications.Select cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and work holding methods to maximize efficiency and part quality.Optimize programs for reduced cycle times, improved tool life, and consistent quality.Collaboration & Support Partner with setup technicians and machinists to ensure successful program implementation.Provide technical guidance and training for operators and junior programmers.Work closely with engineering and quality control to resolve machining and dimensional issues.Quality & Compliance Ensure all programs and processes comply with ISO, AS9100, and customer requirements.Conduct first article inspections (FAI) support and revise programs as needed.Continuous Improvement Evaluate and recommend new tooling, software, and machining techniques.Participate in Lean Manufacturing, cycle time reduction, and process improvement initiatives.Work EnvironmentPrimarily shop-floor based with some office/computer work for programming.Standard business hours with occasional overtime to support production needs.Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or apprenticeship preferred7+ years of CNC lathe programming experience in a precision machining environmentStrong proficiency in G-code programming and CAM software (Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or equivalent).Preferred:Experience in aerospace, medical device, or defense machining.Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems for manufacturing process management.
