The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person.

Key job responsibilities include:

• Conducting comprehensive assessments in accordance with the RN scope of practice and hospital policies.
• Considering the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level.
• Identifying patient risk factors and presenting complaints.
• Collecting objective and subjective data.
• Developing problem lists and prioritizing patient needs based on inter-professional team input.
• Designing actions and interventions relevant to the patient’s culture and age.
• Determining desired outcomes in coordination with the patient and family.
• Implementing patient care therapies and procedures within established policies and guidelines.
• Explaining procedures, treatments, and processes to patients and families.
• Initiating action to alleviate patient stress and discomfort.
• Monitoring and documenting ongoing assessments and responses to procedures and therapies.
• Delegating tasks appropriately and overseeing team members in patient care activities.
• Identifying and addressing educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems.
• Facilitating the discharge process and executing discharge orders in a timely manner.
• Providing input into patient/nurse assignments considering staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity.
• Actively participating in unit-based activities supporting organizational values.
• Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment through actions.
• Ensuring nursing excellence according to accepted standards and current research.
• Participating in unit quality improvement activities and core measures.
