Machine Operator Assistant

The Machine Operator Assistant supports daily production by supplying materials, assisting with machine setup and operation, and helping maintain consistent product quality. This role works closely with machine operators to keep manufacturing processes running smoothly, accurately labels and tracks in-process inventory, and follows established procedures to ensure safe and efficient production in a busy manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

Locate and supply raw materials and components to production lines in a timely and accurate manner.

Weigh, strap, bag, and label finished goods according to production specifications and quality standards.

Assist in performing in-process quality inspections to ensure products meet required standards.

Inform the supervisor promptly of any material needs, shortages, or issues as they arise.

Maintain in-process inventory by correctly labeling work-in-progress (WIP) in production output systems or job packets.

Verify material lot numbers and quantities to ensure accurate tracking and traceability.

Support machine start-up and setup activities under the guidance of the machine operator.

Assist with machine operation by monitoring basic functions and reporting irregularities.

Follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines while working around machinery.

Work as part of a team to move and position large rolls and materials onto presses and other equipment.

Handle materials safely, including lifting and moving items weighing between 50 and 75 pounds.

Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient production and safe operations.

Essential Skills

Experience in production or manufacturing environments.

Mechanical aptitude to understand how machines and manufacturing processes operate.

Strong attention to detail when weighing, labeling, and inspecting products.

Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and workflow.

Ability and willingness to learn new tasks, equipment, and procedures.

Experience with machine operation, including start-up and setup support.

Experience with quality control or in-process quality inspections.

Inventory experience, including labeling and tracking material lots and quantities.

Ability to communicate in English to follow instructions and coordinate with the production team.

Ability to safely lift and move 50 to 75 pounds as part of daily duties.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Prior experience in a textile or similar manufacturing environment is beneficial.

Comfort working with heavy materials such as large rolls of product.

Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work closely with others on shared tasks.

Willingness to cross-train in different production areas as needed.

Reliability and consistency in attendance to support scheduled production shifts.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility with multiple openings across first and second shift production teams. Typical schedules include Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM for first shift, and Monday through Thursday, 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM for second shift, with additional first shift opportunities on Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The facility operates textile manufacturing equipment and requires frequent heavy lifting, including moving large rolls and positioning materials onto presses as part of a team. The environment can be hot in the summer and remains warm in the winter due to running machinery. The workplace maintains a family feel, with a focus on teamwork, communication in English, and direct interaction with supervisors and hiring leaders. Candidates should be comfortable working around industrial equipment, following safety procedures, and wearing appropriate work attire suitable for a manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Woonsocket, RI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
