JOB FUNCTIONS Process member transactions (deposits, withdrawals, transfers, loan payments) in a courteous and efficient manner, both in person and on the telephone, daily.
Promote credit union products and services; consistently cross‑sell and actively refer members to appropriate branch staff at every opportunity.
Accurately record and verify receipt of cash, checks, and other financial transactions; balance cash drawer daily and maintain proper amounts.
In absence of Lead Teller, direct processing of night, mail, and drop box transactions.
Sell cashier checks, corporate checks, travelers’ cheques, and money orders; sell and redeem savings bonds.
Assist members with re‑pinning of ATM and Visa cards; manage cash requirements for branch and maintain control over vault.
Assist with cash requirements for ATM, replenish supplies, fix machine faults, and balance on a daily basis.
Assist with controlling non‑cash items (money orders, travelers’ cheques, corporate and cashier checks).
Assist with operational requirements such as replenishing supplies and maintaining a professional branch appearance.
Prepare reports and accurately maintain logs.
Complete special requirements such as check ordering, help members with basic account inquiries, and support marketing functions with special promotions and community projects.
Participate in dual‑control functions and audit other tellers’ currency.
Assist Lead Teller with training of new Teller Trainees.
Act as a resource to staff; identify and provide solutions to challenging member situations.
Follow and enforce security program at the branch such as dual‑control, proper opening, closing, and alarm procedures.
Assist in maintenance, upkeep, and image of facilities to maintain professional image of VCU.
Maintain confidentiality of member and employee information.
Takes initiative to learn new skills or pursue training to enhance skill set.
May be required to report on completion of tasks, results of coaching, or other assigned duties to the Lead Teller as designated by the Branch Manager.
Report to the Lead Teller any absence or tardiness of other tellers.
Perform any additional duties or assignments as directed by management.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge Strong working knowledge of all policies, products and services of the credit union.
Skills Team-oriented, can see steps necessary to get things done; meets deadlines; willing to put in necessary time to get the job done; good time manager and willing to take responsibility for own actions.
Strong attention to detail; strong problem‑solving skills; flexible in meeting staff and member needs.
Effective communication and listening skills; can comfortably deal with people at all levels; good listener who is empathetic with board, staff, and member needs; above average oral communication skills.
Friendly, pleasant individual.
Education and Experience High school graduate or equivalent; preferably at least two years of teller experience in a financial institution; college degree helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements Occasionally remaining in a stationary position either standing or sitting for a prolonged period.
Occasional travel or moving between office locations or departments within the headquarters building.
Occasional lifting, moving, or adjusting objects up to 20 pounds.
Constant communication with others through verbal, email, and chat; requires consistent use of keyboard and mouse or other electronic device.
Work will be in a commercially reasonable temperature‑controlled environment.
Occasional temporary exterior site review in outdoor elements of wind, rain, or snow.
