Associate Attorney - Compliance

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) seeks an Attorney Associate for its Office of Legal Counsel (OLC). This position provides legal advice, representation, and policy support to IDEM program staff and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations.

Sound legal analysis and critical thinking to advise on defensible legal actions.
Thorough research and clear written communication of findings and analyses.
Resourcefulness and collaboration with both attorney and non‑attorney colleagues.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant statutes, case law, and rules
Strong legal research, writing, and litigation skills
Train, manage, delegate to, or provide support for legal support staff.
Advise and provide legal support to agency staff across various program and legal areas.
Draft, review, or provide legal advice relating to contracts.
Research, interpret, and advise on laws, rules, and policies affecting agency operations.
Draft and review legislation and administrative rules.
Utilize legal resources, dockets, and official records.
Create, prepare, and distribute documents for hearings, including orders and decisions.
Handle administrative matters and hearings with appropriate decorum and evidence assessment.
Employ litigation skills related to agency operations.
Organize and manage caseload for hearings and/or litigation.
draft appeals, briefs, and perform legal writing assignments.
May serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
